LAST weekend saw the climax of the Vale of Glamorgan Association Football League Finals; starting with the Billy Butlin Cup on Friday, April 24.

The Year 9 final saw Cogan Coronation FC take on Sully Sports FC. Ethan Mulchay struck first for Sully with the first half’s only goal. Sully then put two more in on the second half via Adam Nielson and Will Hardy.

Final score; Cogan Coronation FC 0 - 3 Sully Sports Reds.

On Sunday, the day started with the last Junior Cup final with the Year 10 final between Holton Road FC and Sully Sports FC; for the Steve Williams Cup.

Sully controlled the game and managed to get in at half-time two goals to the good with goals from Kyle Williams and Joe Collins. A third in the second half from Richard Lee was enough to gain the trophy.

Final Score; Holton Road FC 0 – 3 Sully Sports FC.

Finally, the main trophy of the league was played for with the Barry Cup being contested between Division 1 Champions VIFC taking on Division 2 runners-up Vale United FC.

An early goal from Nicky Cox saw VIFC take an early lead which was the half-time score during a close match. Nicky Cox – who was also named Man-of-the-Match – put in a second half goal to put one VIFC hand on the trophy. A late penalty for Vale United saw Richard Evans pull one back.

With new impetus, Vale United tried to get the equaliser to force extra time but VIFC held on to take the Barry Cup. Making them treble winners after winning the Supporters Cup and Division 1 title, which was presented to them after the match.
