ON A night when Cardiff Blues came from behind to beat Montpellier in the European Challenge Cup, Penarth RFC minis and juniors were represented by the Under-8s who led the teams out and then put on a winning display of tag rugby at the half-time break.

On the back of a successful run in the summer Under-8s tournament at the Arms Park the team had a winning return as they ran in five tries to the two of Treorchy RFC Under-8s. The team showed to a noisy and appreciative crowd how their passing, support running lines and overall team work has come on well this season.

Sam Jones opened the scoring after less than a minute with a powerful run after a series of good passes to open up space. Two further tries from Tom Jones into the corner in front of the terrace supporters and another from Sam were capped off by an Owen Weeks touch down for a convincing win.

All these made by strong pressure to tag the opposition and turn the ball over and then moving it fast into space.

A great night for these juniors and thanks goes to the community team at Cardiff Blues for the opportunity to inspire these Welsh rugby stars of the future.

A night enjoyed by coaches, parents and players alike and with memories for the players especially of playing in front of a receptive audience who were treated to grassroots rugby and some notable try celebrations that they are sure the Blues players will have noted.
