THE new sailing season is back into full swing at Sully Sailing Club with sailors enjoying a full spectrum of wind conditions for the Early Bird Series.

Wind conditions have ranged from almost dead calm resulting in boats adrift on the tide to storm conditions whipping the sea up into un-sailable conditions.

However, sailors were rewarded for their patience with a perfect Force 4 last weekend.

Fast fleet catamaran and skiff sailors were left complaining of dizziness after completing up to eight laps in the first race.

The first race was won by Steve Marshall in his RS 700 followed by Andrew Evans in his CX14 and Jerry Money in his Catapult. Teilo Richardson finished first out of the slow fleet in his Topaz Uno still completing an impressive five laps.

The course for the second race was duly extended giving the faster boats chance to hoist their spinnakers and let out their mainsheets leading to some exhilarating pace and sea spray.

The second race resulted in identical positions for Steve Marshall, Andrew Evans and Jerry Money in the fast fleet with Teilo Richardson again winning the slow fleet.

A race sailing program takes at Sully Sailing Club from early March until the end of December every Sunday, start times vary according to tides but are usually either 10am or 3pm.

There are also midweek sailing sessions on Wednesday evenings from 6pm from the start of April through to the end of September as well as midweek training sessions for youth and adults starting from May until the end of July.

Sully Sailing Club is also holding an Open Day on May 14 from 11am until 3pm and would love to see as many people as possible come and try a sailing for free. Remember to bring warm clothes or even a wetsuit if you have one.

If you’ve ever fancied trying out sailing, Sully Sailing Club would love you to come along and have a go.

They’ll be plenty of boats of different types and sizes available on the day with experienced members on hand to take visitors out for a sail in Sully Bay.

If you enjoy it, membership rates are very reasonable and the club Open Day coincides with the beginning of weekly adult and youth training sessions which run from 6pm on Thursday evenings from May through until the end of July.
