PENARTH Cricket Club suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost by three wickets at home to Newport Fugitives.

Batting first, the bears were bowled out for just 114 in the 42nd over with skipper Tom Sidford top scoring with 27.

The visitors reached their target with 13 overs to spare despite the efforts of Ryan Sylvester (2-22) and Richard Skone (2-16) as well as Nathan Piddock and Morgan Humphreys who both took one wicket.

The seconds had better fortune as they travelled to Newport Fugitives.

They won by 22 runs having been bowled out for just 121 in the 37th over with Steffan Crimp top scoring with 29.

But they managed to restrict the hosts to just 99 with Andy Graveson (3-12) and Tim Miller (3-20) starring as Jamie Hitchen picked up two and Tom Pascoe and Rhys McGowan got one each.

The thirds also got an impressive 76 run win, this time at home to Radyr.

Batting first, an unbeaten 74 from Keith James and 57 from Robert Crimp helped the bears to 218-5 from 40 overs.

In reply, Radyr were all out for 142 with four balls left.

Neil Stephens took 3-27 and there were two for Ryan Way and Lewis Ingram with Dan Anderton, Tom Parkinson and Chris Webb also getting wickets.

The fourths game at Newport Fugitives was called off.

The firsts lost their T20 festival game against Mumbles at the Athletic Ground on Sunday by six runs.

Having been set 96 to win, they reached 89-5 in a game reduced to 16 overs a side.

This weekend the firsts travel to Malpas in the league on Saturday and host them in the cup on Sunday.

The seconds host Malpas while thirds and fourths play Ton Pentre away and Llantwit Fadre at home respectively
