THE Munro Cup run continued with the visit of Millwood to Rectory Road last week and captain Mike can feel justifiably delighted following a 61 shot demolition ( 100 - 39 ) of the visitors.

The 14 points will certainly help to keep the pressure on leaders Barry Athletic.

With a visit to the Island scheduled for the 25th of the month, Penarth will need to be on their mettle and a win is a must.

Ron Birkby, Berwyn Lansley, Haydn Trow and Dave Clements led the way with a resounding 32 - 10 score line.

After trailing 5 nil after 3 ends, they recovered superbly to control the rest of the game.

Clive Fry ( 25 - 9 ), Dave Plank ( 23 - 8 ) and Bob Horne ( 20 - 12 ) all weighed in to secure maximum points.

With a PG1 blank Saturday, the PG2 side travelled across town to Whitchurch Hospital and came back with a very credible haul of 12 points. A margin of 19 shots saw Guy Thomas, Brian Knight, Dave Ingram and Berwyn Lansley romped home with a 33 - 14 win.

The next best performance was recorded by Colin Hicks, Ken Thorne, Bob Lewis and Ron Birkby producing a 24 - 13 result.

Despite being in arrears for most of the game the rink of Bob Hill, John Whitfield, Haydn Trow and Alex Forsyth battled gamely throughout to eventually take a well earned 22 - 20 win.

Lawrence Brooke, Paul Church, Brian Chandler and the newly converted Paul Rodd saw a 13 -5 lead at the 9th end dissolve into a one shot deficit ( 20 - 21 ) at the 21st end.

An excellent result of 99 - 68 saw the 12 points secured.

The Ladies had an eventful week starting with an evening league victory over Mackintosh by 38 to 27. Wendy Grant, Kath Jenkins, Betty Jones and Christina Church managed to hold off a late surge to win comfortably by 8 shots ( 20 - 12 ).

Belinda Price assisted by Jayne Edwards, Jill Gaskell and Chris Davies also won coming from being behind at the 15th end to record an 18 - 15 result.

The visit to the Murch green will no doubt live long in the memory of those ladies selected to play, particularly the rink of June Williams, Barbara Brown, Lynda Williams and Diana Wilcocks.

With long jacks being employed throughout by the home rink, the delicate ladies of Penarth had a great difficulty in reaching on what was a very awkward green.

However the home ladies being used to the heavy feel, managed nicely to run up a miserable, for Penarth, 45 - 10 win.

The rink of Jill Gaskell, Joan Lewis, Mary Bowen and Lynda Jones managed somewhat better, overcoming the conditions to win by 20 - 12.

An overall adjusted score was a win by Murch by 45.75 to 30.

The final game meant a trip to Caerphilly for an afternoon league match up which resulted in an overall win for Penarth.

Unfortunately one of the Caerphilly ladies took ill during game and the Sue Croll rink had to be abandoned part way through.

The other 2 rinks continued both registering wins to secure maximum points.
