JASON Tovey is training with the Dragons to cover for injuries at fly-half.

The 29-year-old, the region’s leading points scorer over two spells at Rodney Parade, has been helping the squad in their preparations for Friday’s European Challenge Cup clash against Northampton.

Tovey moved to Principality Premiership club Cross Keys this summer after two years with Edinburgh and has linked back up with the Dragons because of injuries to Gavin Henson (knee) and Arwel Robson (ankle).

The left-footer made his Dragons debut in 2008 and racked up 951 points either side of a season with Cardiff Blues in 2012/13 before heading for Scotland in 2016.

South Wales Argus:

“We’ve had Tovey in because we’ve had some backs down with injuries,” said defence coach Hendre Marnitz.

“Tovey is an experienced bloke and I had a good one-on-one with him this morning. He has been away from Wales and has grown as a human being, not only as a rugby player.

“He is very excited to be here and has a very good skill set. He is an ultimate pro, it’s good to have him around and people can learn from him.

“We are going to take it week by week but at the moment he is in and is keen to be here. We will see how it evolves.”

Josh Lewis started at fly-half against Timisoara Saracens last weekend with Jordan Williams as his back-up while Jacob Botica, a summer signing from RGC 1404, has been pulling the strings for the Dragons A team in the Celtic Cup.
