Success for Penarth Walking Footballers at South Wales tournament
The Penarth Walking Football group for over 55s, established in January 2018 at Penarth Leisure Centre were runners-up (representing Vale of Glamorgan) in the inaugural South Wales tournament at the Geraint Thomas Velodrome, Newport on November 28.
Eight teams representing South Wales regions participated.
It was an inspiration to see the teams battling it out and enjoying themselves. Vale of Glamorgan were unbeaten en route to the final against Torfaen.
The game ended in a hard fought 0-0 draw and the opponents clinched the title after a penalty shootout.
The Penarth team's average age is 70 years and included the Tournament's oldest player, Ronnie Walton.
Penarth's Francis Hudd was awarded the Player of The Tournament.
All the teams enjoyed a buffet lunch afterwards to complete a most enjoyable morning.
The Penarth group plays every Friday morning from 10am-11am at Penarth Leisure Centre and will warmly welcome new members.
All standards of capability are catered for in our group.
Walking Football is becoming well established in South Wales and the Penarth Group look forward to participating in future tournaments.
