Greenaway Autos Singles League

The Buccaneers

With only 3 games remaining in the first half of the season, it’s getting tight at the top.

Matt Stanger did his usual 16 dart leg, in winning both his games against Grant West and then James Johnstone, both by a 3-1 score line. He pulls 4 points clear at the top with Mark Stevens beating Dai Randall, also by 3-1, in an epic encounter, and after drawing with Matt Davies, he moves with in 1 point of Dai, in 3rd place.

John Nowland beat Grant 3-1, but lost, by the same score, to James, who maintains the final qualifying spot, on count back. Both players are on 6 points with all to play for. Grant overcame Matt Davies, in another close match, with both players reaching 3 points, with plenty of games remaining to win their way through.

The Mutineers

Alan Oliver and Steve Turnbull fought out a creditable draw to remain 1 and 2 in the race for qualification. Grant Coombes has crept up into 3rd with another good night, winning both his matches 3-0 and 3-1 respectively over Nathan Rosser and Paul Cox, hitting a 104 out shot along the way. Nathan picked his game up in beating The Sparkle to keep his hopes alive. Paul Jenkins, with a 18 darter included, denied Steve victory in another drawn match. This result moves Paul within 2 points of qualifying.

1st Round Singles.

The 1st 5 games were played with Mark Stevens proving too strong for Steve, winning 4-0, highlight being a 16 dart leg. Paul Jenkins, despite hitting 5 scores of 11, overcame a lacklustre Paul Cox 4-1, to book his place, and likewise a spirited performance from Nathan just wasn’t enough, though he had his chances, going down 4-2 against Dai Randall. Grant Coombes won a tense last leg decider against James, 4-3, after James had bagged a maximum. Final game saw Alan beat the Sparkle 4-2, again with Mark getting his 1st 180 of the season.

Next week sees the remaining 1st round fixtures, and then the open draw for the quarter-finals.
