Greenaway Autos singles league: What a climax!

The Buccaneers

With the remaining two places up for grabs on finals night the atmosphere was tense, in the last round of matches. Grant West, James Johnstone and Mark Stevens all had their destiny in their own hands.

First up saw Grant (180) give his all in a terrific match with the already qualified Matt Stanger.

A 2-2 result was indicative of the excellent scoring and finishing of both players.

James opened the night with an emphatic 3-0 victory over another qualifier Dai Randall, including a timely 123 checkout. Grant then played Matt Davies, who hit another 180, and scraped through 3-1 to leave both James and Mark needing a win apiece to get through.

Mark was first up and in another clinical display won 3-0 against John Nowland to guarantee his place in the final four. James then took on John and indeed won 3-1, meaning Grant was pipped by a solidarity point.

The Mutineers

There was just one place to fill in this division, with Paul Cox and Steve Turnbull left to fight it out, literally.

Already qualified Alan Oliver (180) went down 3-0, in an excellent starting for Paul, and he also drew with The Sparkle (180) to maintain first place in the league table.

Grant Coombes won 3-0 against Mark then in a pre cursor to the semifinals, drew with his opponent on finals night Paul Jenkins who finish the campaign second and third respectively.

The Sparkle had to play both Paul Cox and Steve, and with both players needing a win.

The Sparkle turned on the after burners and denied both players a much needed victory, both ending in draws, leaving Paul and Steve to face each other in the last match of the night.

Paul had to win whilst Steve needed a draw to progress.

Paul played absolutely perfectly taking every opportunity when it came and duly won 3-0.

This wasn’t the end though, with both players on a 15 point total, resulting in a 9 dart shoot out for a place in the finals.

A tense start saw both hit 45s but Paul took full advantage of a sloppy 22, to cement his lead and indeed Steve’s last throw wasn’t enough so Paul makes the last four by the skin of his teeth after an excellent evening personally.

The match ups for finals night are Alan Oliver vs Paul Cox and Grant Coombes vs Paul Jenkins.
