NEWPORT County AFC hope to have Jamille Matt and Matty Dolan available for Monday’s trip to Macclesfield Town, but midfield duo Joss Labadie and Andrew Crofts could miss out again.

Matt scored his 19th goal of the season in Friday’s 3-1 win over Bury at Rodney Parade before being forced off at half-time with a dead leg.

Dolan created the first of two goals for Mickey Demetriou against the Shakers but he was withdrawn midway through the second half after suffering with cramp.

But Exiles boss Michael Flynn hopes both will be fit to take on relegation-threatened Macclesfield.

Labadie missed out again on Friday as he continues to recover from a gash to the ankle that required 10 stitches and fellow midfielder Crofts was ruled out with a minor abductor problem.

“It’s a slight injury, but nothing too bad – just a little tweak of his abductor,” explained Flynn, who insists that everyone has a role to play as County chase a play-off place in their final four games.

“It was a massive team effort [against Bury]. Even the boys who weren’t involved played their part.

“We’re a team and every single one of them was excellent. If we’re going to do this, we’re going to do it together.

“We’ve only got a small squad and we’re going to need everyone.”

South Wales Argus:

Harry McKirdy (above) impressed after coming off the bench to replace Matt and he could force his way into the starting XI at Moss Rose.

“He did very well,” said Flynn. “He’s a talented boy and he’ll be disappointed that he didn’t score.

“We’ve got options from the bench now, and we’re going to need them.”

Bury boss Ryan Lowe was not impressed with his team’s performance and he appeared to blame the playing surface at Rodney Parade.

“I think it was the worst we’ve played all season,” said Lowe.

“Sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition, but we knew what they were going to do, and we caused our own problems.

“We’ve had some harsh words said and we don’t want to be staring in the mirror come the end of the season asking, ‘what if?’

“I’m disappointed in the football, we knew we couldn’t play as much as we would have liked on this pitch against a dogged side.

“We should have dealt with their threat better. We wanted to ask more questions of them.”

Bury dropped to fourth in the table but are still in the race for automatic promotion.

County know that if they win their remaining four games, they will be guaranteed a place in the play-offs.

But Matt is not taking anything for granted against Sol Campbell’s battling Macclesfield.

Speaking to iFollow Exiles, the striker said: “It’s a different type of battle.

“Since Sol Campbell has taken over there, Macclesfield have done very well because when we last played them, I don’t think they had won a game before that.

“To get themselves into the position which they’re currently in is absolutely fantastic. It’s tight down there, a real battle to stay in the league and we’re under no illusions that it’s going to be a tough test.

“We’ll go there and show them the respect they deserve but we have to concentrate on ourselves, play our way and hopefully get a good result.”
