THE very kind weather continued as both members and visitors were full of praise about the superb condition of the course.

The May Bank Holiday attracted a large entry for the popular Bowen Greenwood Mixed Competition and Jeff Hudd celebrated his birthday with his wife Lynda by winning the competition with an excellent score of 37 points. Count back went into overdrive to separate the first four places all with 37 points and just missing out were the runners up Cliff White and Karen Ball. Club Captain Lesley Sherrard presented the prizes and complimented all the competitors on the quality of golf and the green staff for the excellent presentation of the course.

The Men’s competitions on the weekends continue to attract large entries.

Robert Pike won the Saturday Stableford played on the Bank Holiday Weekend with 38 points just one ahead of 5 players and Phillip Newton was declared runner up on countback.

A medal is always the ultimate challenge and on the following day Craig Balchin produced an excellent net 69 to win by two strokes from Kevin Knowles. However, stroke of the day went to Andy Evans who holed out in one on the 200-yard par 3 15th hole and generously paid the price at the bar.

Last Saturday the men entered the Welsh Team Handicap Qualifier with the best four scores going on to represent the Club later in the year. Justin Benham posted the top score of 40 points and will be joined by Ryan Cox, Chris Chalmers and Phillip Newton.

The Ladies Section held their Championship Qualifier with the top 7 gross scores, together with defending Champion Sian Smith, going on to the knockout stages held over the summer months. Jane Lott posted the best qualifying score on the day with an excellent gross 91.

The Seniors Section recently held their regular Wednesday Stableford and Peter Rice played well to win with 40 points with Jeff Hudd continuing his good form to be runner up with 38 points.
