SULLY Sports Bowls Club hosted close neighbours Penarth Windsor in a Monro Cup fixture on Wednesday, 15th May, on a pleasant sunny evening.

Both sides won 2 rinks each but it was the Windsor who took the aggregate win by a big margin of 79-51.

The lead change 6 times in tight first 7 ends on K Aguis’ rink, and from a shot up after the 6th, the home rink could only record 4 more over the remaining 12 ends, and some fine Windsor bowling eased them to a comfortable 14 shot win.

Keith Romans’ rink was closely contested early on, but by hallway the visitors had built up a 5 shot lead.

The home rink rallied to lead with 4 ends left, but with 2 ends to go it was all square.

The Sports registered a 2 on the penultimate end, but the Windsor just failed to pull it back on the last gaining a single, which gave the Sports a rink win by a shot.

C Coomber’s rink was behind from the start, as the visitors raced away with some excellent bowling, 13 of the 18 ends to record a fine 27-9 win.

G Brown’s rink struggled for 10 ends, where they were 10-4 down, but then clicked and with all four players contributing at various stages they eventually ran out 16-13 winners.

Sully Sports Man-of-the-Match: David Davies

On Saturday, 18th May, Sully Sports travelled to Maesteg Celtic in the Carruthers Cup, and for the second game running won two of the four rinks, but lost the match, this time by an aggregate of 69-83.

K Aguis’ rink were 5 shots ahead after 6 ends, but found themselves 2 shots down 2 ends later, but then took 9 of the remaining 13 ends to record a 10 shot victory.

L Romans’ rink went behind on the 1st end,, and some impressive bowling from the visitors kept them in front throughout, to win the rink comfortably by 23-12.

C Coomber’s rink started well winning the 1st 2 ends, but struggled thereafter winning only 6 of the following 19 ends, and went down 12-31.

G Brown’s rink was nip and tuck ,losing an early lead, drawing level at halfway, then establishing a lead that despite the visitors fightback, they held onto take a 6 shot win.
