WEDNESDAY 29th May saw both Old Pens racket ball teams in action at the club against Llantrisant and Rhiwbina respectively.

With OP 1 plagued with injuries, captain John Birch-Hurst was forced into some late substitutions that saw OP2 number 1 Paul Duffy playing for both teams, and Dave Pearn tempted out of retirement to play at #3.

Whilst OP 2 got the better of Rhiwbina and took the match 3-0 with clean sheets across the board, OP1 didn't fair quite as well.

After a mammoth effort in a thoroughly entertaining match against Chris Jones, Dave Pearn eventually prevailed 3-1. These proved to be the teams only points of the night - perhaps not surprise given Paul's 2 matches and John meeting very strong opposition at #2.

A feature of the shorter format is that it allows more than just the team to play. Both visiting teams bought additional players and 3 friendlies were played after the main events, so extending both the evening and the interest for all concerned before retiring to the bar.

Next home fixtures sees both teams likely to feature again as we get home fixtures in before the changing rooms are closed for refurbishment. All support welcome.
