DESPITE a narrow 6 shot defeat away to Wyndham, the Penarth Windsor men finished top of their group in the pool stage of the Welsh Bowling Association Cup.

Their success came as a result of comprehensive wins away at Cadoxton by 27 shots and away at Llantwit Major by 24 shots.

Normally, at least one game is a home fixture, but this year all games had to be played away because the club was staging the Atlantic Tournament.

The successful outcome of the group matches means that Windsor are through to the first round proper and will travel to play Loughor next Saturday.

It was also excellent news in the League.

Having suffered two very narrow defeats, they hit a rich vein of form to defeat visitors Cardiff Athletic by 97 shots to 54.

The rink scores were :- Ellard, King, Turnball and McLeod 36-6. Matthews, Gooding, Paterson and Woodcock 16-22. Follon, Rees. Stevens and Carlisle 22-18.

Evans, Thorne, Hope and Hudson 23-8.

The PG2 team are back in action next Saturday with a trip to Rhiwbina. They were hoping to continue their winning streak of one game, away to Cardiff Athletic on Saturday last.

However, the game had to be cancelled as the Arms Park area was in lockdown because of the Take That concert.

Apparently, the decision was made on the basis that the band would be likely to attract more spectators than the bowls match.
