THE summer competition season is well and truly up and running at Dinas Powis Golf Club and Nick Madge bagged the first cup of the campaign.

He shot a brilliant 40 points to win the Hird Trophy to join his brother Jon and son Dan on the winners board in the clubhouse.

The presidents day prize was won by 23 handicapper Phil Cale who played one of his best ever rounds to finish on a net 61.

Fred Orchard won the Best Senior award with a typically gritty net 66.

In the running competitions it was certainly one for the family with The Hirds made up of Richard,his wife Maxine and eldest son Greg winning the Kim Hall trophy.

With an influx of around 30 new members the club has been boosted by the arrival of several single figure handicappers which has enhanced the 1st and 2nd teams.

The course is looking in excellent condition at the moment and the committee are also delighted with the numbers in the restaurant which is rapidly gaining a fine reputation for the cuisine provided and the number of parties being booked.

This weekend the Oscar Powell pairs competition will be played for with holders Matt Hadley and John Roblin looking to retain their title.
