The Spartans ended their 2019 Vale of Glamorgan midweek league campaign with a fourth consecutive win this time by 42 runs against Cowbridge, and in doing so just pipped Pentyrch to the league title in what has been an exciting end to the midweek season.

They beat Pentyrch in an excellent game played in the best of spirits.

Winning the toss the Spartans elected to bat first with Saeed Ali and Saneesh Chandran taking the bull by the horns and hitting anything that was bowled at them which meant a healthy 48 off 6 overs.

Ismail Saqib than entered the fray with the same intent and he hit a quickfire 18 along with Saeed who continued to push the score forward to 125 from 13 overs before being out for a superb 72.

The middle order had more difficulty hitting the Cowbridge change bowlers who bowled a much better line and length and the Spartans hit another 52 off the last seven overs reaching 177 for 7 off the allotted 20 overs.

In response the Cowbridge openers went off like a train and if it had not been for a superb boundary catch from Vishal G the final result could have been a lot different as the home side continued to have a go in reaching the target, succumbing on 115 for 9 at the close with Inam Khan bowling a tight line, but it was the introduction of skipper David Morgan with 3 for 9 and Sandeep Shooken with 3 for 18 that sealed the victory for the Spartans as they claimed league title.
