THE bank holiday weekend provided ample opportunity for members and visitors to enjoy the very sunny and warm conditions with a variety of competitions available or relax and play social golf.

On Saturday the Ladies took part in the Tegwen Perkins Stableford and the final scores produced a remarkably close finish with four players recording the top score of 29 points and further two on 28 points.

The places were determined by countback over the back nine holes and Lucy Sellick will look to her birdie on the tough 16th hole as the score which gained her first place.

Jane Lott finished in second place with Joanne Marriot and Stephanie Bonnar ending in third and fourth place respectively.

Also, on Saturday the men enjoyed a Stableford which attracted a huge entry.

Another close finish meant countback working overtime to declare Dave Iles the winner with 40 points.

Joseph Xiberras also scored 40 points but was squeezed into second place by the narrowest of margins.

David Letchford played well to finish third with 39 points.

On Sunday the Men had the opportunity to play for the Autumn Tankards, an honours board competition with an unusual format of a better ball medal.

Teams of two players recorded their best score on each hole including any handicap allowance and low scores were essential to clinch the trophy.

Nick Caulfield and Ian Pearcey combined particularly well to post the winning score of net 60 just one stroke ahead of runners up Mike Chick and John Peters.

Third place went to Dean Rowlands and Pat Regan who were unlucky having gone very close with a net 62.

Bank Holiday Monday saw the final opportunity to play in the popular mixed competitions.

The Vaughan Thompson Tankards, played as a greensome stableford, attracted a good entry were rewarded with another day of sunshine and perfect golfing conditions. Andrew and Tina Church produced the winning score of 35 points taking first place on countback from Russell Owens and Wendy Motton.

Club captain Lesley Sherrard presented the prizes and thanked all the members who took part in this final mixed competition and all the others which were well supported throughout the summer months.

Lesley highlighted how well the superb course continued to be in top condition and a real pleasure for members and visitors to enjoy with a bonus of the ongoing exceptional golfing weather.
