FOR their final competitive fixture, Sully Sports Bowls Club visited Guest Memorial in the PG1s looking for the double over their Merthyr rivals, but in a close, good natured, fight on all 4 rinks, slipped to a 9 shot loss, going down 74-83. The Sports won one rink, drew one, but lost on two, with one of those by a single shot.

K Aguis’ rink won 11 of the 21 ends, but took singles on 10 ends and a 2 on the other, and the hosts swept to victory by averaging nearly 3 shots on each of the ends that they won, to record a 27-12 win.

On Bob Matthews’ rink it was nip-and-tuck early on, and the Sports were a shot behind after 8 ends, before they took control with some exquisite bowling to run out 22-15 winners.

In another low scoring match, on K Roman’s rink the lead changed regularly throughout the match.

With 5 ends left the Sports trailed by 3 shots, but appeared to have turned it around to lead by 3 going into the last end, but here the home rink pulled out all the stops to grab a 4, and win by a 1 shot 20-19.

G Brown’s rink struggled at the start, and were behind throughout, down by 7 after 12 ends, and by 5 going into the last end, where suddenly they found some magic to conjure 5 shots, and grab a creditable 21-21 draw.

Rink Scores:

B Howell, A Collard, G Currie, G Brown 21-21;

A Fitt, D Austin, B Whyman, K Romans 19-20;

P Holland, B Knight, L Adams, B Matthews 22-15;

D Davies, R Gallivan, C Coomber, K Agius 12-27.
