LAST Saturday the kind weather continued at Wenvoe Castle as the men competed for one of the top trophies in the golfing calendar.

The aptly named Castle Trophy provides a real challenge in a medal competition with the winner posting the best gross score.

Terry O’Grady opened his round with a disappointing double bogey on the first hole but by the end of the round had recovered with three birdies and nine pars to record the lowest gross score of 76 and was clearly delighted to be declared the winner of the Castle Trophy.

Ryan Cox and Mike Chick both scored 78 with the former just missing out after a very steady round which saw two birdies and eight pars.

The competition also included prizes for the best net scores and Mike Chick had some compensation on just missing out on the best gross winning the best net prize with an excellent net 67. Terry O’Grady was runner up with a net 71 and Russell Owen finished in third place also with a net 71 but squeezed out on count back.

On the same day the Ladies took part in the Jubilee3 competition with teams of three players recording the best two scores on each hole.

The winners were Karen Ball, Sue Dayananda and Sheila Davies who totalled 70 points. Runners-up were Linda Marples, Nicola Manning and Diane Spear with 37 points.

There are still a few tee times available for the Captain’s Charity Day to be held next Saturday 7th September and funds will be raised for the nominated charity Parkinsons UK.

Please book online at www.wenvoecastlegolfclub.co.uk or call the club secretary, Nicola Manning on 02920 594371, who will be delighted to make the booking on your behalf.
