SULLY Centurions Cricket Club wrapped up the 2019 season with a trip down the road to Hayes Point to play a friendly against neighbours Barry Wanderers.

Wanderers, with two guest players, Fawad Khan and Steve Morse, from Sully, won the toss and decided to bat first on a warm September afternoon.

The opening pair of Madhan and Coleman put on 44 for the first wicket, when Madhan was smartly caught and bowled by Patrick Lane for 23. Singh fell for 11 at 61 off the bowling of Gareth Thomas. The score had moved on to 72 when Thomas also took the wicket of Coleman, caught behind for 25. Vijay added just one to the total before he holed out to Dan Chaulk, off the bowling of Nick Jones.

This brought Fawad and Morse together and they ended the flow of wickets, putting on a half century partnership to bring the score to 123 before Morse was dismissed by Ben Spear, being caught by Gareth Thomas for 31.

Fawad followed for 20 off the bowling of Nick Jones.

Some hefty whacks by the lower order brought the score to 166 all out, with two overs remaining.

After tea the Centurions' openers Callum Thomas and Lloyd Bruce, started off in a similar fashion to Wanderers, reaching 41 before Bruce was bowled by Grant for 21.

Grant was also responsible for the wicket of Jason Hicks, who was bowled for 1 in the 9th over, with the score on 60. In the meantime, Callum Thomas was busy accumulating boundaries, as he took a liking to the home attack.

Nick Jones went for 3, being the victim of a spectacular diving catch from that man Grant, off the bowling of Bowker. Callum Thomas was joined by brother Gareth and they enjoyed a partnership of 102 to see Centurions home in the 20th over.

Gareth Thomas finished with 32 not out and Callum just failed to reach a century. His 98 not out included 15 fours and 3 sixes.

The game, which was played in a true spirit of friendly rivalry, was a fitting end to Centurions' season.
