A BRILLIANT night of darts at the Ex’s culminated in a terrific final in Greenaway Autos Q Series giving The Pirates a new champion.

Group A, of the qualifiers, saw Grant Coombes top the table, only dropping 1 leg on his way to the semi-finals.

The battle of the Cox family, for runners up spot, went the way of the younger Paul over dad Mo.

Group B saw a fantastic run of legs by Anthony Adams, hitting 2 maximums, and again only dropping the 1 leg, to top the table. James Johnstone won 2 out of 3 matches, however, leg count wasn’t enough to get runners up spot, which went to Lee Lewis, who despite losing 2 out of his 3 games, made the 12 dart shootout for 2nd placed players.

Group C was a very cagey group with all 6 matches going 2-1.

Steve Turnbull won all 3 games to top the table, with the deciding point being the very last leg against Russ Edwards.

Craig Harris also benefitted with this last leg, by a point, over Russ for runners up spot.

Steve hit a 105 out in an 18 dart leg over Craig along the way.

The 12 dart shootout saw Paul, Craig and Lee battle it out for the final semifinal place.

As it turned out Lee’s first throw (100) gave him the advantage which both Paul and Craig couldn’t quite make up over the 4 throws.

The first semifinal pitted the 2 inform players Grant Coombes and Anthony Adams.

Something had to give and at 1 leg apiece, both players had a match dart but Grant held his nerve to make the final, hitting the winning double.

The second semi saw Lee turn form on its head in defeating the resurgent Steve 2-0, his second win of the evening.

The final was a ding dong battle, ton for ton, 140 for 140, between Grant and Lee.

At 1 leg all, Lee, with a string of successive high scores and brilliant first time finishing saw him just get over the line, to become the Summer League Champion for 2019.

Least darts prize, for the season went to Anthony with a 13 dart leg. Highest out, 154, goes to Dave Tancock (Cwmbran), with the 180 crown being shared by Anthony and Mark Stevens with 6 apiece.

Well done to all competitors this year, thanks for your support.

A big thanks to Kat at the Ex’s and for the added prize money.

Reminder that the Winter Singles Sunday League is under way with last registration 13th October.

Currently Steve Turnbull heads the table after the first week's matches, 22nd September, on 4 points.
