Former Wales centre Jamie Roberts has left Bath with immediate effect to play the 2020 Super Rugby season with the Stormers.
The Newport-born powerhouse back left Cardiff Blues in 2013 to play in France for Racing 92.
The 33-year-old headed for England with Harlequins in 2015 and made the move to the Rec two seasons later.
Roberts will now embark on another challenge in South Africa after being granted an early release from his contract.
The centre won 94 caps with Wales and made three Lions Test appearances, winning player of the series against the Springboks in 2009.
The Stormers have recruited Roberts to add experience to their rookie backline and also act as a mentor, performing a "major role in nurturing the talent around him in Cape Town".
“It has long been a goal of mine to play in the southern hemisphere," said the centre.
“Having toured South Africa with my school, sevens, club and Wales, then playing in the 2009 British and Irish Lions series as a young player which was a highlight in my career, to spend some time down here and contribute to the fantastic rugby culture will be a special privilege.
"It feels very special to be able to come and play rugby in South Africa.
“While I am looking forward to pulling the Stormers jersey on, this will also be a fantastic opportunity for me to help impart some knowledge and insight on the many talented youngsters that we have here."
The Stormers are captained by World Cup-winning skipper Siya Kolisi and open their Super Rugby campaign on Saturday, February 1.
