NEWPORT County AFC academy graduate Dom Jefferies has been recalled from his work experience loan at Salisbury.

The 17-year-old midfielder, who has been a regular in County’s Leasing.com Trophy side this season, joined Southern League Premier Division South side Salisbury on loan last month.

But Jefferies, who has filled in at right-back on a number of occasions for the Exiles this season, has returned to Rodney Parade in time to feature in tomorrow’s Trophy semi-final against Salford City.

“Newport County has recalled Dominic Jefferies from his work experience,” said Salisbury in a statement.

“We’d like to thank Newport for the time we’ve had Dominic.

“He has been an outstanding player during his time here and we wish him all the best in the future.”

Commenting on Twitter, Jefferies said: “Thoroughly enjoyed my time at Salisbury FC. Wishing the club all the best with rest of the season.”

South Wales Argus:

Right-backs Ashley Baker and Dan Leadbitter are unlikely to play for the Exiles again this season due to groin and hamstring injuries respectively.

Manager Michael Flynn, who previously said that he was unlikely to recall Jefferies, has been trying to bring in cover for both positions but without much luck so far.

“Nothing is happening at the minute,” he said this morning. “We’ve tried. Some of them don’t want to come. Others want to leave their options open.

“There’s 10 weeks left [in the season] and that’s their prerogative. It is what it is and there’s nothing I can do about that.

“We’ve just got to play with the hand we’re dealt.”
