GWENT back row forward Morgan Allen was top of the turnover charts in the Premiership this season after a superb campaign with Cardiff, writes Chris Kirwan.

The 30-year-old from Cwmbran, son of former Newbridge and Wales forward Andy, helped the Blue and Blacks get into prime position to win the title before the season was cancelled by the Welsh Rugby Union because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Allen, who represented Wales at under-20 level while with Pontypool, won 23 turnovers in 15 appearances with Cardiff to edge out Pontypridd lock Sean Moore, who had 21.

South Wales Argus:

Newport openside Kyle Tayler (pictured), the Black and Ambers' player of the month for January, finished in third with 20 turnovers in 15 outings.

His teammate Elliot Frewen was a rather more surprising inclusion on the leaderboard – the livewire wing known for his fast feet won 15 turnovers in 14 league games.

There was a runaway winner in the tackle charts with Swansea flanker Callum Bowden racking up an impressive 196 with a completion rate of 88 per cent.

The Whites back rower had a healthy lead ahead of Merthyr's Jack Perkins, who made 147 with a completion rate of 94 per cent.

Ebbw Vale forward Dan Hill's fine campaign for the Steelmen was shown by his tally of 121 (92 per cent).

Cardiff finished the season with the best defensive record, conceding both the fewest tries, 29 in 16 games, and points, 243.
