SULLY Sports Bowls Club, without a game last Saturday, 29th August, continued to progress with their internal club tournaments.

On Wednesday, 26th August, the Sports hosted Cadoxton for a friendly, with a 4 rink triples format.

Friendly was the correct title, as the game was played in a very amicable atmosphere, but retaining a touch of competitiveness, and to the Sports’ delight, they gained their first win of the season.

K Aguis’ rink was tight for the first eight ends, with the Sports leading 5-4, before they opened up a 8 shot lead over the next three ends, and at 12-4 with four ends to play, it appeared as if victory was assured. But some superb bowling on the next two ends, saw Cadoxton take seven shots and cut their deficit to one.

The visitors then led by four on the penultimate end until Aguis’ final wood took a single.

The position was reversed on the final end, with Cadoxton’s skip bowling the last wood, lying three shots down, and requiring a three to snatch victory, and as good as he bowled, he only turned the end over for a single.

L Roman’s rink lost the first end, but a fine team effort by the home trio, saw them take eleven of the remaining fourteen ends, to secure a comfortable rink win.

A Collard’s rink won the first five ends by a single shot, then, the visitors came into their own to win the next five of the next six ends (one end saw neither side scoring) to race into a six shot lead. Although both teams won two of the last four ends, Cadoxton extended their shot lead by two, for a good win.

C Coomber’s rink was on top form as they cruised to thirteen shot lead after ten ends.

A brief fightback by Cadoxton, taking the next three ends, scoring seven shots gave the visitors a glimmer of hope, but the Sports took a single on the last two ends to secure the victory.
