THE Dragons and Newport County AFC have joined forces to express their disappointment at supporters still being locked out of Rodney Parade during the coronavirus pandemic.

Fans will be back in the stands in England in December with up to 2,000 crowds allowed at grounds in tier two areas and 4,000 allowed at those in tier one.

The Exiles could play their first game of the season in front of supporters when they travel to Leyton Orient on Saturday, December 12.

However, fixtures will remain behind closed doors in Wales after the Welsh Government tightened restrictions on Monday.

A joint County and Dragons statement said: “Both organisations have been in dialogue with Welsh Government representatives, who have confirmed that their stance remains the same and supporters will not be permitted into stadiums across Wales at this time.

“Whilst we are disappointed that we are currently unable to facilitate the return of supporters to Rodney Parade, the health and well-being of players, staff and supporters remains our primary concern.

“Both organisations will continue preparations for the safe return of supporters to Rodney Parade at the earliest opportunity.”

County season ticket holders are able to watch home fixtures online on iFollow but Dragons supporters have to subscribe to Premier Sports to watch games.

The Exiles have a mouth-watering FA Cup clash against Brighton of the Premier League in January while the Dragons will miss out on a bumper crowd when Cardiff Blues visit on Boxing Day.
