THE Dragons have suffered two more injury blows with back rower Ben Fry and centre Adam Warren to follow Wales star Ross Moriarty in going under the knife.

Moriarty had an operation on an ankle injury at the start of the week and is set to miss eight weeks of action, ruling him out of the Champions Cup fixtures and festive derbies.

The region have suffered more bad news with Fry (torn bicep) and Warren (groin) also facing lengthy lay-offs after being forced off in the early stages of Sunday’s Guinness PRO14 win at Benetton.

Tighthead Lloyd Fairbrother also came off after a head injury in the fourth minute and will sit out Saturday’s trip to Glasgow (kick-off 7.15pm) but the news is worse for the other duo.

Abrasive flanker Fry is set for an operation this week and will be out for a couple of months at least while centre Warren will also face surgery and faces “a significant amount of time” out, according to director of rugby Dean Ryan.

The injuries are a blow ahead of a hectic schedule that pits the Dragons against the Warriors before Champions Cup clashes with Wasps and Bordeaux-Begles then derbies against Cardiff Blues, the Scarlets and Ospreys.

South Wales Argus:

Fry had made an impression in the early months of the season to earn selection ahead of Wales hopeful Taine Basham.

“Back row is an area of strength for us but he is a young man who has pushed himself into the mix,” said Ryan.

“It's a huge blow to his momentum and development. We are pleased with where Ben has been, what he has learnt and how he has been going.

“Coping with injury is the next challenge that he has to face and we hope to get him back as soon as we can.”

Basham replaced Fry in Treviso and is likely to form a starting trio with the in-form Harri Keddie and Ollie Griffiths against Glasgow on Saturday.

Huw Taylor is in pole position to back them up from the bench after being travelling reserve in Italy with fit-again Lewis Evans and Lennon Greggains other options.

Aaron Wainwright will return for the Champions Cup opener against Wasps on Saturday, December 12 but fellow Wales international Moriarty is out for an estimated eight weeks.

The 26-year-old has had an operation on his right ankle after suffering an injury in training with the Test squad.

South Wales Argus:

“"Sometimes a player can get caught up in trying to make it for every international and it's not worked," said Ryan.

"You've got to then make it about Ross and getting him right and ready to play again at the right time.

"He went in for a review and the decision was taken that it would be better to stabilise the ankle. We've done that and we are in the eight weeks territory, although we have to see how he rehabs."

Warren, who is out of contract at the end of the season, was aiming to impress in the absence of Wales centre Nick Tompkins.

He was replaced by Jack Dixon at Benetton and the heavyweight partnership with Jamie Roberts could continue at Scotstoun Stadium.
