A LOCAL bowls club welcomes new members to an open day, and is gearing up to celebrate 50 years of their indoor arena later this year.
The Penarth Bowls Club, located on Rectory Road in Penarth, is inviting those who would be interested in finding out more about the sport of 'bowls', to their open day which takes place on Sunday, August 25.
Mike Hebson, secretary and team captain of the Penarth Bowls Club, said the sport can be enjoyed by many people of all abilities and levels, adding that, "its one of the few sports you can play both indoor or outdoor. from the age of 6 to 96.
"Our oldest member of the group is 97."
Penarth Bowls Club was founded in 1909, with the indoor arena opening in 1974 and celebrating its 50-year anniversary in November 2024.
Mr Hebson said the Penarth Bowls Club is the only indoor arena in Penarth, and added: "It's a very cheap sport to play when you compare it to others, like golf."
The open day will take place on Sunday, August 25, between 10am until 1pm.

£65 for a full-year membership
£30 for 6-months indoors
