WALES legend Jess Fishlock is returning to the Women's Super League after joining Reading on loan.

The 33-year-old midfielder – Wales' most capped player with 113 international appearances – has joined the Royals from OL Reign while America's National Women's Soccer League is on a break.

Fishlock will join international teammates Angharad James, Rachel Rowe and Tash Harding in Reading and will aim to be part of the team when the WSL restarts with a trip to Arsenal on September 5.

The move is a boost for Wales ahead of their Euro 2021 qualifiers with Jayne Ludlow's side resuming on September 22 with a tricky clash at Norway.

Penarth Times:

Fishlock suffered a serious knee injury last summer and playing for Reading will help her return to full fitness.

"I am super excited to be joining Reading on loan," she said. "It's nice to be home and I am thankful for the opportunity.

"I can't wait to get started and I'm really looking forward to helping Reading push on to another level."

Reading manager Kelly Chambers said: "Jess is a world class player that has a wealth of experience at the very top level of the women's game.

"Not only does Jess have incredible experience behind her, she also possesses a fantastic understanding of the game that will only help the players around her on the pitch and our team to progress.

"What I love about Jess is that she is still so hungry to develop and learn and I'm so excited to work with her over this period. It's fantastic to bring Jess to our club."

Fishlock says she is refreshed after her lengthy spell out with injury.

"I was getting to the point where I was probably mentally exhausted from playing all the time. Different teams, national team, the pressure and expectation of playing at the highest level for 13 years," she said to BBC Wales.

"This injury, although I would have liked to do it a different way, has really refreshed my mental capacity and physical outlook on football and life.

"I'm 33, tore my ACL, people probably think I'm done, but I feel so refreshed and excited to get back."
