NEWPORT County AFC's bright start to the season has been recognised with two players handed Wales call-ups.

Josh Sheehan and Tom King have both been included in the Wales squad for their upcoming triple header against the USA, the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

Rob Page will be standing in on the touchline for manager Ryan Giggs for the fixtures, following the news that Giggs had been released on bail after being arrested on Sunday.

Page has named a 29-man squad for the fixtures, including recalling talisman Gareth Bale, who missed the last squad through injury.

It is the first time that Sheehan, who has previously represented Wales at under-19 and under-21 level, has earned a call-up to the senior squad.

The midfielder has started the 2020/21 season in impressive form and has played every single minute of County's league fixtures so far this term, helping the Exiles on their way to the top of the table.

Sheehan also captained Michael Flynn's men to victory over Cambridge United in the Carabao Cup second round before being handed the armband again for County's first ever fourth round clash against Newcastle United.

Giggs was present at Rodney Parade for the historic game against the Magpies and watched Sheehan take on the Premier League side as the Exiles eventually fell to a penalty shoot-out defeat.

King, meanwhile, has been called up for the second time after being included in the squad for Wales' final two Euro 2020 qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Hungary in November 2019.

The goalkeeper has made three appearances for the Exiles this term, with two coming in the EFL Trophy, and kept a clean sheet in the Carabao Cup tie against Cambridge.

King comes in alongside Owain Fôn Williams, earning his first call-up since 2017, with both Wayne Hennessey and Adam Davies out injured.

Wales welcome the USA to the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday, November 12, before hosting a UEFA Nations League double header at the Cardiff City Stadium.

They host the Republic of Ireland on Sunday, November 15 prior to Finland's arrival three days later.

It is the first time that two County players have been included in the same Wales squad since Nigel Vaughan and Steve Lowndes faced Brazil in 1983.

Brandon Cooper and Aaron Lewis, on loan at Rodney Parade from Swansea and Lincoln respectively, have both been included in the Under-21s squad to face Moldova and Germany.

The quartet will miss County's EFL Trophy game at Plymouth, but their League Two trip to Grimsby, which they would have missed, has now been postponed due to international call-ups.
