CARETAKER boss Robert Page insists it's business as usual for Wales ahead of the draw for the World Cup qualifiers after securing Nations League promotion.

A 3-1 win over Finland at Cardiff City Stadium secured a place with Europe's elite in the competition, and also virtually guaranteed a play-off for the 2022 World Cup.

Wales could be just two games away from Qatar but first they will hope to get the job done themselves in the qualifying campaign with the draw taking place in Switzerland on December 7.

Page was in charge of three November fixtures with manager Ryan Giggs was absent after allegations of assuault, which he denies, but the debrief and preparation won't be affected.

Penarth Times:

"Work carries on as normal," said Page. "We've got a bit of downtime now until we're next together but planning absolutely stays the same and we crack on as normal."

Wales will be up against the European big guns in the Nations League in 2022/23, with Page finishing off what Giggs had started.

"It's a great achievement. We did not take this whole campaign light-heartedly," Page said.

"We knew the rewards were there, potentially to get a World Cup place irrespective of where you finish in your group.

"What Ryan started in this campaign, to go unbeaten and to win the manner in the way we did, I was pleased.

"I am extremely proud of that group of players in there, as is Ryan. I spoke to Ryan straight away at the end of the game.

"He's an extremely proud of the players, how they've gone about their business and how they've handled the camp, to show the resilience and win the group."

Wales only needed a draw in Cardiff and were looking good from the moment Finland's Jere Uronen was sent off after 12 minutes for dragging down Harry Wilson as he closed in on goal.

Wilson opened the scoring after 28 minutes after a superb Gareth Bale assist and Daniel James slammed home a drive at the start of the second half.

Norwich's Teemu Pukki scored the first goal conceded by Wales in the Nations League campaign and the Finns enjoyed a spell of pressure.

However, the nerves were settled when Kieffer Moore climbed high to nod home a cross from the impressive James.

Wales have gone on a record-breaking run of 11 competitive games unbeaten, a streak that stretches back to the summer of 2019.

"If you could bottle that feeling and see what you've seen in the changing rooms you'd make millions," Page said after Wales had scored twice in a match for the first time since qualifying for Euro 2020 last November.

"We showed our intent from the first minute on the pitch and rose to the occasion."
