STRIKER Jamille Matt and defender George Nurse should both be available for Newport County AFC for tomorrow’s League Two clash with Exeter City at Rodney Parade.

Matt missed Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Macclesfield Town as he served a one-game ban following his red card in the 1-0 defeat at Northampton Town last Saturday.

“It was a frustrating red card,” said manager Michael Flynn. “The whole day was frustrating. But it’s good to have him back and George Nurse is up for selection as well.”

The left wing-back has made just two competitive appearances since his loan move from Championship club Bristol City and has not featured since coming off the bench in the 1-0 home win over Crewe Alexandra on August 24.

Nurse injured his ankle in training before the Carabao Cup clash with West Ham United on August 27 and has been ruled out of the last six games.

“He’s come through it now,” said Flynn. “He trained the other day and, provided there’s no setback, he’ll be up for selection.”

South Wales Argus:

The defeat at Northampton ended a club-record run of 17 games without defeat in regular-season games and Flynn paid tribute to his players.

“They’re a fantastic group, I can’t speak highly enough of them,” he said. “Yes, we’ll have off days. But, over the course of a season, there are a lot more positive days.

“They work hard every day, they get on well off the pitch and they fight for each other on the pitch. I’m blessed to have a group like that.”

And the boss reserved special praise for Robbie Willmott.

“Everybody says Robbie is my favourite,” he joked. “He’s been fantastic for this club and he’s a lot more mature now.

“He’s one of the voices in the changing room and he’s come on leaps and bounds with his mentality. He’s in a good place off the pitch, he’s in fantastic shape and he’s been a vital player for us.”
