Woodcock and Holmes reign supreme

A CASE of a mixed bag of results for the gentlemen bowlers of Windsor this past week.

However the old adage of the 'cream always rises to the top of the milk' proved correct in the cases of Matthew Woodcock and Anthony Holmes and their respective rinks.

They both bowled superbly to register victories in the Munro Cup match against Millwood and the first round game in the All Wales Carruthers Shield against Cowbridge. Both players were quick to praise their team members. In Tony's rinks were Richard Flitney, Phil Gooding, John Price, Rod Hudson and supporting Matt were Austin Meredith, Brian Rogers, Alan Dudley and Eddie Thorne. In the two games Malcolm Hope's rink had a loss and a victory, but the four of Michael Loydd-Jones found their opponents too strong and lost both their matches.

Windsor 60 shots, Millwood 67 and, Saturday's result, Windsor 80 shots, Cowbridge 66.

Yet another defeat against Rhiwbina for the Tuesday Alliance in the zimmer frame league was lightened by a fine victory for the debonair and urbane John Hardess who along with Phillip Parry, Thomas Evans and David Brenton secured the lone Windsor victory. Windsor 44, Rhiwbina 76.

The recent and unfortunate run of bad luck suffered by the clubs second team in securing a victory which has lasted since Magna Carta or at the least 18 months has come to an end.

The Howells-Hales partnership took St Fagans by storm with David Hales, Alun Daniel, Donald Stafford and Austin H Meredith winning a titanic battle by 21 shots to 20. That said even better was to come as Thomas Evans, Steven Ellard, John Jack Skone and the evergreen Doyen of the male membership Kenneth Trenchard all bowled brilliantly to triumph by the mammoth margin of 35 shots to 10. Well done me hearties. Windsor PG2 85 shots, St Fagans 69.

A full and comprehensive report on the 2014 tour to the English Riviera will appear in next week's edition.
