PENARTH Gymnastics Club has done it again. Gymnasts from Penarth and Barry who attend the club proved to be the best in Wales at the annual Welsh Disability Championships, recently held in Swansea Gymnastics Centre. LAST Saturday, October 25, Old Penarthians took a rest from league action to play in the first round of the SWALEC sponsored WRU Bowl competition. The opponents, Cambrian Welfare, who travelled to Cwrt-y-vil from the Clydach Valley, were unbeaten in the league and cup action so far this season so any thoughts that the players may have had about a restful Saturday were quickly dispelled. And when the recent malaise of being unable to field sufficient front row forwards continued, it meant that the team who took the field were definitely not going to have an easy time.

THE newly formed Lion B team won at home this week, they took on the Coro Oldies and came away with an 11-2 win. Lion B took both pairs with Russ x4 and Mitch 120, S Keepin 125 and Paul x20 took the second of the pairs wins. Dai hit 105 for the Oldies. Lion B took three singles wins through Paul 100 x10 and 100 x8, Mitch 100 100 x8 and x16, S keepin 125 x5 and x10. Derek was the Coro’s sole winner scoring x2 and x11. High scores came from Russ 125 and Dai 100 124 100. The team game also went to the Lion B when S Keepin hit x12 to take the three points.

PENARTH Bowling Club’s indoor season continued in a winning vein with victory over Cowbridge BC in last Wednesday’s Men’s match. There were some raised eyebrows at the start of proceedings when “Rambo” Butler lined up with the opposition, but the mystery was solved when it was explained that he had manfully answered a last minute call to help out the visitors who were one man short.

ON A blustery October day, crews from all over the principality stormed down the River Taff in this end of season race. In this regatta the premier event coxed fours, the Penarth crew stormed down the River Taff. The crew in the junior men's novice boat, Cecil Thomas powered their way down the course overtaking Llandaff's senior men's crew in the first mile.

THE indoor season got off to a winning start last Saturday, when the Rectory Road Mixed team gained a substantial victory. The ever popular Llantwit Major provided the opposition on this occasion and, though the visitors gave a very good account of themselves, as ever, “local knowledge” prevailed and the Penarth team were victorious on all four rinks.

PENARTH U15s travelled to take on the Men of Gwent from Pontypool United with the game being quite evenly matched and contested from the start with both sets of forwards working tremendously well in ruck and maul.
