Murch enjoy the Costa Brava

LIBERAL QUANTITIES of sun and sangria proved too big a handicap for the bowlers of the Murch in their recent fortnight's tour to the Costa Blanca in Spain, as the results recorded were four matches played, four matches lost.

The transition from lawn green to synthetic surfaces was also a factor, which had a major bearing on performance.

Margins of the losses remain a mystery, however, as the 'score cards' for the games mysteriously disappeared prior to the return to Cardiff Airport. Despite the match results all members voted the tour a big success, with good accommodation, excellent food, and the attractions of Benidorm and the surrounding areas fully explored.

Investigations are now under way for the venue of the 2002 tour, with the Iberian peninsular a 'hot' favourite.

Still recovering from the rigours of the tour, 80 club members attended the Club Annual Dinner and Dance at the Plymouth Rooms, Penarth on October 13. A pleasant evening was had by all, with the Club captains delivering their customary 'end of season' reports, and the Club President, Bob Hill, announcing the winners of the 'Plant a Pot' competition.

This contest was for the best-planted and maintained containers, which were placed in strategic positions surrounding the Murch Bowling Green. The judges were from the local authority leisure department, and the deserving winners were Val Richards and Mal Cosslett.
