Cinema review of 'My Little Eye'

AFTER the recent popularity boom with 'reality TV' shows such as, Big Brother and Survivor, it has always been obvious that films based on these shows will be coming soon.

Now they have, and lets face it, they don't sound very promising, but this film goes beyond expectation in every possible way.

Five people enter an internet competition to stay in a house for six months.

The whole group receive $1 million if they stay there for the whole time, but if one person leaves, everyone loses.

The group think it would be easy but strange goings on occur and one by one, they get killed.

With Big Brother, it takes a while to get used to the characters; this film is like watching two hours of Big Brother, as the only cameras used are the hidden one used in the 'competition.'

So as it begins you seem to think that another Welsh director is trying to be too clever but forgetting to allow the audience to get to know the characters or at least find it entertaining.

However, director Mark Evans has somehow done the opposite by making you become the 'sixth housemate' as you always feel part of the group.

What is amazing though is how he has managed to make it claustrophobic, creepy and make jumpy bits successful with his limited use of cameras.

To pull something like this off requires incredible talent and he has proved that. A lot of the praise must also go to the cast of five unknowns.

Just like The Blair Witch Project, their acting is so realistic, making the whole film so believable.

Mark Evans though is set for super stardom in the 'artsy side' of Hollywood.

He is the David Lynch and Cameron Crowe of the next generation. He had made a film that will make you feel shocked, bewildered and sick.
