Council gives green light to Fairtrade plan

PENARTH Town Council last week approved a resolution to work towards achieving Fairtrade status for the town.

Cllr Mark Wilson, proposer of the motion, said: "The motion was ap-proved by full council. There has been a great deal of interest in it.

"I hope the people of Penarth get behind the council to help us meet the necessary criteria."

To become a Fairtrade town a number of goals must be met.

The local council must pass a resolution supporting Fairtrade and serve Fairtrade coffee and tea at its meetings and in its offices and canteens.

A range of Fairtrade products must be readily available in the area's shops and in local cafs.
