Autumn 2014 season.

On Saturday, September 13 - A Promise (12A) 100 mins.

We bring you this film immediately after its August cinema release. Rebecca Hall, Alan Rickman and Richard Madden star in Patrice Leconte’s film (the first in English by the veteran French director), based on Stefan Zweig’s novel Journey Into The Past. A married woman in Germany just before WWI falls in love with her husband’s protégé.

On Saturday, October 11 - Zulu (12A) 1964 120 mins.

Our heritage film for the Autumn season is Zulu, in its 50th anniversary year. It’s a classic epic about a detachment of just 150 South Wales Borderers making an heroic stand against a Zulu army of 5,000 at Rorke’s Drift during the Zulu wars of 1879. Produced by and starring Stanley Baker, with a debut big screen performance from Michael Caine (not a lot of people know that).

On Saturday, November 8 - Calvary (15) 100 mins.

A good-natured priest in rural Ireland is threatened with assassination during a confession and must battle the dark forces closing in around him.

Brendan Gleeson delivers an outstanding performance, ably supported by Kelly Reilly and Chris O’Dowd. John Michael McDonagh directs with great style. Highly-rated drama, which is atmospheric, gripping and shot through with some biting dark humour.

On Saturday, December 6 - Belle (12A) 100 mins.

A period drama based on the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the illegitimate mixed-race daughter of a Royal Navy Admiral in 18th-century England.

Raised by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord Mansfield and his wife, Belle’s lineage affords her certain privileges, yet the colour of her skin prevents her from fully participating in the traditions of her social standing.

The story that unfolds will help end England’s involvement in the slave trade. The splendid cast includes Gugu Mabatha-Raw, Tom Wilkinson, Emily Watson, Miranda Richardson, Matthew Goode and Penelope Wilton.

For all Saturday evening screenings, doors open 7pm for a show-time of 7.30pm. Tickets are £4 advance, from both Dinas Powys POs and the DPVC office at the back of Murchfield Hall (am weekdays only) and £5 on the door.

Joe’s ice cream on sale at every screening, along with tea/coffee and popcorn, with a licensed bar on selected nights. Remember to keep hold of your ticket stubs for the prize draw! Further information at www.murchcommunitycinema.bravesites.com
