SULLY U3A's August Open Meeting was very successful with a good attendance of members and non-members.

The various Interest Groups displayed their activities and there was an opportunity for people to "have a go".

There was the usual colourful display from the Knitters and Stitchers, lovely artwork from the Painting Group and photographs from the Photography Group to admire.

The other activities on show included the Walkers, Badminton, Drama, Local History, Ping Pong, Luncheon, Book, Natural Healing and Computer Groups.

The interest that afternoon resulted in an extra ten members being recruited bringing the membership to almost 270. The next meeting will be on Thursday, September 11 at 2 p.m. at The Old School, Sully, when the speaker will be Dean Powell who will speak about Dr William Price.

Dean Powell is a guest speaker, journalist, author, broadcaster and vocalist. His prolific workload varies from presenting high-profile engagements in some of the world's largest concert halls to lecturing on the life of Welsh radical, Dr William Price, of whom he is considered the leading expert. Everyone is welcome to drop in to listen to the talk, have a cup of tea and find out what U3A has to offer.

The booklet Sully Remembers 1914-1918 commemorating the men from Sully who lost their lives in the First world War which has been compiled by Kathy Beach and sponsored by Sully U3A is now available at £5.

All the proceeds from the booklet will be divided between the Royal British Legion and the St John Baptist Churchyard Fund.

The booklet is available at many outlets including the Windsor Bookshop, Penarth, Sully Post Office and Constitutional Club.
