VIVA Las Vegas is the theme of a fundraising night of music and dance being held in aid of the Walk with Alfie campaign.

The event will take place as part of Penarth Summer Festival at the Paget Rooms on July 5 and will include the music of Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones and Elvis Presley and others.

It will also feature Jane Clark's dancers in an evening of song and dance where the audience will be set up in cabaret-style tables of six.

The Walk with Alfie campaign was set up to help a young boy named Alfie who has cerebral palsy.

Born in May 2012, he was diagnosed with the condition at just nine months old.

Despite excellent care so far, there is insufficient funding to meet his needs so his family, including his mother Fiona, are fundraising to help Alfie to walk.

The money is needed to pay for occupational therapy, physiotherapy and strength and condition.

With this support, the hope is he will be able to walk in the near future and live a more independent life.

His mother, Fiona, said he is progressing really well and that he is due to start school in September.

"He's doing really well. He can sit and pull himself up on his own as well as taking tentative steps with help.

He has been assessed for a wheelchair which we expect to receive in late August."

She went on to say how without the therapy he would be nowhere near where he is now and that it has been life changing.

"We love to think that he will be able to live a fully independent life in the future because of the progress he is making."

The event starts at 7.30pm and tickets for the evening are £10 each or £50 for a table of six. Call 07590 677763 for more details.
