PENARTH Songwriters' Circle is back on Friday, September 25, with another brilliant line-up of musicians.

Luke Jackson, Ellie Makes Music and Christopher Rees will perform at All Saints Church Hall, Victoria Square, Penarth.

Luke Jackson is a young Roots Singer/Songwriter from Canterbury, Kent, who in 2013 was nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for both the Horizon Award for Best Emerging Talent and The Young Folk Category.

With a bold, distinctive voice and a sweet, percussive guitar style, Luke is a confident and captivating live performer. He was also winner of Fatea’s ‘Male Artist of the Year 2014’.

He has developed a strong reputation for himself in the Folk and Roots circuits through his solo shows, many festival appearances and when opening for such luminaries as Show of Hands, Martyn Joseph and Glen Tilbrook. His debut album ‘More Than Boys’ produced by the acclaimed Welsh singer-songwriter Martyn Joseph was released in 2012 to great reviews, as was the follow up ‘Fumes and Faith’ in early 2014.

Described as sounding like a ‘Welsh Taylor Swift’ and ‘Laura Marling’s little sister’, Ellie James aka ‘Ellie Makes Music’ has an organic, sincere sound that combines folk, pop and alternative.

Since the release of her debut EP ‘City Lights’, Ellie has performed at the House of Commons in the company of Mark Radcliffe and Cerys Matthews, been hailed as "quite brilliant" by Tom Robinson from Radio 6 and signed to Charlotte Church’s publishing company Bounce Publishing.

She then had her song 'Company' featured in the Peacock's Christmas advertising campaign and 'Lines & Angles' in the independent film High Tide. Her new EP ‘Are You Listening?’ was released on July 13 and showcases her rapid growth and maturity, reaching number 15 in the iTunes singer-songwriter chart.

Christopher Rees will make a welcome return to premier material from his forthcoming new album ‘The Nashville Songs’ which he co-wrote in Nashville, USA with some of ‘Music City’s best songwriters.

With six highly acclaimed albums already under his belt, Rees’s distinctive take on roots/Americana music has been championed by the legendary Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2 and MOJO Magazine, editor-in-chief Phil Alexander as well as some heavyweight touring partners like Steve Earle, John Cale, Patty Griffin and Kristin Hersh amongst others. “An increasingly accomplished songwriter in full flight” (MOJO).

The 'Songwriters Circle' format also continues to generate rave reviews from spectators and performers alike. The bi-monthly event has now become a very popular fixture in the local music calendar.

With all three singer-songwriters sitting side by side on stage, taking it in turns to perform, it creates a warm and intimate atmosphere that breaks down barriers, encourages unique collaborations and presents fascinating insights into the stories and inspirations behind the songs. With three more top quality songwriters on the same stage it's certain to be yet another classic night not to be missed.

Tickets cost £8 in advance and are available from Pencerdd Music, Station Approach, Penarth, and Spillers Records, Cardiff, tickets on the door cost £10. Doors open at 7.30pm with performances starting at 8.15pm. Bar provided.
