WALES Millennium Centre will present their first full-scale new musical starring David Thaxton and Caroline Sheen.

Premiering next Easter, the first large scale original musical, created by Wales Millennium Centre with Soho Theatre, Daniel Sparrow Productions and Birdsong Productions.

Only The Brave is based on real events surrounding the D-Day landings.

Created by Rachel Wagstaff, writer of the hit stage adaptation of Birdsong, and composer Matthew Brind, Only The Brave recounts the incredible stories of real people, whose bravery and strength are tested to the limit by events surrounding the most significant invasion by the Allied Forces in the Second World War.

Telling the heart-breaking and inspirational tale of two couples brought together by war, this emotionally charged new musical brings to life the passion, camaraderie and courage of an incredible generation.

Artistic director of Wales Millennium Centre, Graeme Farrow, has commented: "Following the success of the productions Wales Millennium Centre have created over the last 12 months, including Man To Man, Tosca and Broadway To The Bay, producing a new, full-scale musical is the next step on our journey to create our own world class work. I’m delighted to be able to announce that we also have two remarkable Welsh stars, David Thaxton and Caroline Sheen, taking up the show’s leading roles. Only The Brave is also another fantastic collaboration for the Centre, and I’m looking forward to premiering Only The Brave with Soho Theatre, Daniel Sparrow Productions and Birdsong Productions for our audiences in the spring."

Only The Brave has been created by writer Rachel Wagstaff (Birdsong), composer Matthew Brind (X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent) and director Steve Marmion (artistic director of London’s Soho Theatre). Original concept by Steve Coleman, Matthew Brind and Rachel Wagstaff.

Only The Brave premieres at Wales Millennium Centre from March 28 to April 2.
