TWO youth orchestras will perform at St David’s Hal, Cardiff, this summer.

Firstly, the Palestine Youth Orchestra will deliver a diverse programme of Beethoven and Arabic improvisations on Saturday, July 30.

Plus, introducing the talented students for this concert is Carlo Rizzi – the Welsh National Opera’s conductor Laureate and the Jane Hodge Foundation International chair in conducting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

In 2013, the Palestine Strings performed at the Proms to a sell-out. Now its sister ensemble the Palestine Youth Orchestra will perform Arabic songs from Egypt and Lebanon alongside contemporary British music, Beethoven and Mussorgsky.

Sharing the stage will be students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Guildhall School of Music and Drama led by British conductor Sian Edwards and young Palestinian vocalist Nai Barghouti.

Tickets to the concert cost £10 and £12.50. Reductions of £2 per ticket for Friends of St David’s Hall, disabled people and unemployed are available.

Then the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland will perform Stravinsky’s The Firebird on Thursday, August 4.

Starting at 7.30pm, the youth ensemble present the Russian composer’s work alongside excerpts of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in G major.

The NYOS will be joined by the principal guest conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Ilan Volkov and the BBC New Generation Artist, Pavel Kolesnikov.

Tickets cost £12 and under-25s are £2.50.
