A NEW Cardiff-based opera company will bring their latest production to All Saints Church, Penarth, on Saturday, September 10.

Opera In Situ aims to bring music to unusual venues throughout the city and surrounding areas.

Following on from performances in Cardiff, the company are bringing their latest version of Street Scenes which takes fragments of seemingly unrelated shows and knits them together, choosing to find some connection between all the pieces in order to make the show stand as an entity as opposed to a series of excerpts.

Filled with the music of Bizet, Britten, Kurt Weill, Mozart and Bernstein, among others, Street Scenes is an exploration of everyday life and how we as people interact with one another.

The inspiration for the project was taken from Kurt Weill’s American opera Street Scene and numbers from it will form part of the event.

Opera in Situ is an inclusive company and it means that its performers come from a wide spectrum of musical experience.

Two of its members – Sian Davies (accompanist) and Rachel Moras (mezzo soprano) have previously performed at All Saints Church as part of the church’s Music at Lunchtime spring season and two other company members – Lara-Clare Bourdeax (soprano) and Scott Baker (classical guitarist) will be contributing to the upcoming autumn series of lunchtime recitals.

Tickets for Street Scenes by Opera in Situ at All Saints Church, Victoria Square, Penarth are available from Griffin Books in the town centre and Foxy’s Deli in Station Approach.

Further information is available from the parish administrator, Dafydd G Jones by calling 02920 703170 or email admin@allsaintspenarth.org.uk

The proceeds from this concert are to be shared between Opera in Situ and All Saints Church, with the church’s share being put towards the All Saints Organ Restoration Fund. Wine, soft drinks and nibbles will be available after the performance giving the audience a chance to meet the performers and other members of the company.
