IN A departure from its weekly free music recitals, All Saints Church in Victoria Square, Penarth holds an anniversary concert on Monday, October 31, which will feature international operatic soprano Rebecca Evans.

The concert will start at 1pm and ticket holders will be able to enjoy a cheese and wine reception beforehand from noon. All Saints Church, on this day, celebrates the 125th anniversary of its consecration in 1891.

The church is delighted to welcome Ms Evans, who lives in Penarth and whose son, William was christened at All Saints. She will be ably supported by Sue Scott and Steph McNicholas, returning to All Saints with songs from the 1930s to 1950s.

Organist August Guan, pianist and conductor, Anthony Negus and baritone Nigel Lloyd-Latham and music students from Stanwell School will help provide a varied programme of music. Tickets for this event are available from Griffin Books, Foxy’s Deli and the All Saints Parish Office, priced at £10.

Concert goers will have the opportunity to view a display of old photographs and documents showing different aspects of the church’s history. The church will also be open at other times during the week for this purpose.

All Saints Church then reverts to its weekly free concerts in November with four more recitals before the autumn season comes to an end.

All Saints parish administrator, Dafydd G Jones extends an open invitation to the people of Penarth: “Our programme of free lunchtime recitals has provided the local community, and beyond, with many opportunities to come along and enjoy all kinds of music of a high calibre in friendly and comfortable surroundings since July 2013 – a total of 54 concerts. Many performers return, some are now regulars, but the All Saints Music at Lunchtime programme has also attracted new performers this year and we look forward to another even more successful year in 2017 as the church enters its 125th year.”
