PENARTH Acoustic Club returns next Friday, December 16, for their last session of this year and are proud to present An Evening with Martyn Joseph.

Departing from the usual acoustic club format, there will be no support acts, no poet, just an evening with a respected performer on the acoustic music scene.

Born in Penarth, Martyn’s recording career spans more than 30 years, 32 albums, more than half a million record sales and thousands of live performances throughout the world.

The versatility of his music touches genres of folk, rock, soul, folk funk and Americana, yet they don't define his music.

Compared to Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer, Bruce Cockburn and Dave Matthews, he has created his own style and reputation as a live performer and stands in his own right, built on a reputation for giving what thousands have described as the best live music experience of their lives.

He’s a talented guitar player who has developed a unique percussive style, teamed up with a powerful voice, and has been called 'The Welsh Springsteen'.

Martyn follows a tough touring schedule. Playing more than 100 tour dates this year alone in the UK, Europe, Canada and the USA, after playing in St David’s Hall in Cardiff last week his show next Friday will be a rare homecoming to Penarth, and an even rarer chance to experience a musician of his calibre in such intimate surroundings.

Martyn was awarded Best Male Artist at the 2004 BBC Welsh Music Awards and in 2012 his song There’s Always Maybe won the best folk song category in the World Independent Music Awards.

In addition to his five top 50 UK hits, his work has been recognised by programmes such as BBC 2’s prime time series on singer/songwriters. Social justice has a presence throughout his music, which has been recognised with various humanitarian awards and plaudits.

He has previously toured with the likes of Art Garfunkel, Jools Holland, Ani DiFranco, Suzanne Vega, Mike and The Mechanics, Joan Armatrading, Celine Dion and Shirley Bassey.

Don’t miss this chance to see Martyn Joseph performing at Penarth Acoustic Club, upstairs at the Conservative Club, Stanwell Road.

Doors will open at 7.30pm for the performance to begin at 8.15pm.

Tickets cost £12 and it is strongly advised to get your tickets in advance from Pencerdd Music on 029 2070 9982 or Griffin Books on 029 2070 6455, as the event is expected to sell out.
