ON Saturday, December 8, at 7.30pm, the Cantorion John S Davies Singers will make a return visit to St Peter’s Church, Dinas Powys. They will be accompanied by Robert Court, organist/choirmaster of St Augustine’s Church, Penarth.

Like John S Davies, Robert Court is widely known throughout Wales. They have worked together over a number of years, their most recent joint appearance being at the Fishguard International Music Festival in 2011.

John Davies founded the Festival and was Artistic Director until 2006: his Singers, formed in 1978, have appeared in many Wales centres, in London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall and in Rome. Many choral and instrumental works have been dedicated to him with several major compositions now in the choral repertoire.

Recent CDs have been made in Christ Church, Carmarthen and Picton Castle in Pembrokeshire.

The Concert music is designed to call to mind the expectancy during Advent and its climax at Christmas. Works by Adam, Rutter, Britten, Handel, Bach, Trevor Roberts, Eric Jones, Stanford and others will be included (www.johnsdaviessingers.org.uk).

The Singers appeared recently on S4C on Remembrance Sunday and their 22nd afternoon Concert at St David’s Cathedral in Pembrokeshire will be held on January 1, 2013.

The Dinas Powys Concert will be in support of the Stroke Association. For further information contact 029 2051 2105.
