AN AWARD-WINNING chef has opened a new Indian takeaway in Penarth promising to be the home of the “cheeky curry”.
Chef Anand George, a previous winner of South Asian Chef of the Year, opened ‘The Pickled Pepper – Home of the Cheeky Curry’ on the corner of Glebe Street on Wednesday, December 18.
The Kerala-born founder of Cardiff’s ‘Purple Poppadom’ Nouvelle Indian Cuisine restaurant said he wanted to add a “fresh twist” to traditional takeaways.
Designed to provide customers with restaurant quality cuisine with take-out convenience, the takeaway serves cuisine is inspired by the chef’s Kerala roots as well as his own culinary creations.
Penarth-based restaurateur, Sue Tasher, is operating The Pickled Pepper in partnership with Chef George. The pair have worked together for many years both in restaurants and in supporting charity projects in Kerala, in coastal Southern India.
Anand George, who also opened ‘Munchesters,’ a continental-style food-on-the-go eaterie in Cardiff City Centre earlier this week, said:
“We have been developing a takeaway brand for over a year now, and when this opportunity came up to work with Sue in Penarth, I did so without hesitation. We want to add a fresh twist to traditional takeaways, introducing restaurant-quality dishes to our menu as well as those that I have found to be popular in my six years in Cardiff.
“I am delighted to be in partnership with my old friend Sue Tasher again, and supporting her commitment to the local Penarth community which spans over 25 years.”
As well as a collection service, The Pickled Pepper, which takes its name from the traditional tongue-twister ‘Peter Piper,’ also provides a delivery service to Penarth and the surrounding vicinity.
Sue Tasher added: “I am so excited to be working with Anand George who for me, has single-handedly transformed Indian cuisine in Wales.
“This is proven by his many awards since arriving in Cardiff in 2007. We look forward to serving our customers at the new home of the cheeky curry in Penarth.”
