PUPILS from Sully Primary School brightened up the day of patients at Penarth’s Marie Curie Hospice by reading to them and talking to them about the school’s new writing shed.
The pupils were invited to the Bridgeman Road hospice after an article in the Penarth Times last year about the launch of the school’s Dylan Thomas inspired writing shed.
The writing shed, which acts as a quiet place to inspire youngsters to write stories, poems, plays and songs, aims to inspire children in their writing so that they can follow in the likes of Dylan Thomas.
Teacher Laura Sheldon, who came up with the idea of a writing shed when she was teaching her class about Dylan Thomas’s work, said that staff at the hospice had invited pupils to come in and talk about the writing shed and share their writing.
She added that the small group of Year 5 children, who spent the morning talking and reading with some of the day patients, also brought with them a book as a present – ‘Writing from the Shed’.
