ON Tuesday, April 14, Sully Painting Group held a competition for its members.

In the competition there were sections for mixed media, watercolour, oils or acrylics. Members were invited to submit paintings with “spring” as the theme.

Artist Diana Mead was asked to come along for the difficult task of choosing the winner for each section. Diana very kindly went round each painting and gave helpful constructive criticism on all of them, and the group would like to express their gratitude for her comments.

Her choices were 'Spring Lamb’ by John Thomas in mixed media, 'Primroses' by Amrita Gill in acrylic and 'Happy Children' a watercolour by Jan Parsons. These three paintings, together with the winner of a pastel competition earlier in the year, (“Puppy” by Jan Parsons), were then judged by members, to find the overall results. The results were first John's ‘Spring Lamb’, Amrita's ‘Primroses’ came second and the ‘Happy Children’ by Jan third.

This was the first competition and the accompanying wine and cheese helped to make it a most enjoyable occasion.

All these paintings together with many more can be seen in their Annual Exhibition to be held in the Jubilee Hall, Sully from June 12 to 14, further details and catalogues will be available next month

They raised money for Ty Hafan and the Teenage Cancer Trust with their exhibition last year, and hope that it will be supported as well or even better this year.
